Statement of Purpose

Four years ago, I attended my cousin’s wedding party which was a wonderful heart-warming party. I felt happiness, and I wondered if I can establish my own wedding service company to spread happiness. However, I was majoring in English. Therefore, I lacked professional knowledge about how to manage an organization, such as statistics, accounting, and management. The MS in management at George Mason will allow me achieve my goal of running my own company.

In my undergraduate degree, I studied English in Kunming University of Science and Technology, China. Actually, at that time, I felt confused about my future, because English was not the major I want to learn and my English was poor. Therefore, I could not find my goal and learn well. When I did decide on my career goal, I thought I should use my English knowledge to pursue my dream. And then, I studied hard for study abroad. I remember that I just got 56 points in TOEFL test at the first time. As an English major student, I was shamed for my low language level and I also shamed for my inexertion. After that, I tried even harder to learn the language. One year ago, I got 80 in the test, and that was a milestone for my endeavor.

During my undergraduate degree, I was the leader of Taekwondo association in my university. This experience improved my organization skill, leadership ability, communication skill and spirit of cooperation. After our efforts, our association became the most popular association in the school.

As I talked about above, my language is poor. Therefore, studying in Pathway helped me to improve my language and adapt in my life and study. Moreover, I changed my major in graduate degree, so I knew little about my major, Management. The Pathway program guided me to understand my major in detail. For example, in EAP 506, I had interviewed a graduate student in management and I got much information about my major. I knew my courses were divided in 4 modules in 11 months, and I knew I would learn a lot of case studies. At the same time, I would learn two major courses in this program. Last semester, I learned Statistic which gave me self-confidence because I got an A plus in this course. In summarize, Pathway gave me an opportunity to prepare for my study.

To be honest, I know George Mason University because of my agent. She considered my situation and recommended several schools to me. Finally, I chose Mason because its Management major is very great and suitable for me. As I mentioned, I changed my major. Mason’s MS in Management is designed for non-business major, so it fits to me. In addition, Mason is one of the best universities in Virginia and an up-coming school with immense potential. Its potential is immense. At the same time, Mason has outstanding teaching, excellent faculty and improved facilities. Now, I am here and I am happy with my choice.

After I graduate, I would like to find a job in America. Work experience is very important. When we work, we can find what we lack and what we want. Learning can teach me knowledge, but work can teach me ability. Therefore, I hope to work in America about 3 years, particular in wedding service. However, I think any work can improve me, so I would not limit to only work in wedding service. I would like to try and experience various jobs. After I prepare well, I would establish a top wedding service company in China.

I found Management is an interesting art. When I learnt Statistics last semester, my professor told us that statistics was not only analyzing the data, but also help people make a wise decision. It is very common and useful for our work and our life. I think Management is the same. I can not only teach me how to manage an organization, but also my daily life. When I test my strengths, it shows that I have adaptability, positivity, relator and consistency. Especially, I am talented in the Achiever theme. Therefore, have a great deal of stamina and work hard. I take great satisfaction from being busy and productive that make me alive and valuable. In addition, I have my goal and I would do my best to make the dream come true. Therefore, I am confident that I am good fit for the MS in Management program. Thank you for your consideration.
